The Digital Alliance, including industry leaders like Airbus and GE Aerospace, welcomes Liebherr-Aerospace to improve predictive maintenance for aircraft, minimising downtime and costs.
Digital Alliance has announced a significant enhancement to its initiative aimed at optimising aircraft maintenance through improved predictive analytics. This collaboration, which already includes industry giants Airbus, Delta TechOps, and GE Aerospace, has welcomed Liebherr-Aerospace as its newest member. The alliance seeks to refine the accuracy of predictive maintenance recommendations, thereby minimising operational interruptions and diminishing the incidents of costly “no fault found” scenarios that frequently arise in aircraft servicing.
Liebherr-Aerospace, renowned for its expertise in various aeronautical domains including environmental control, thermal management systems, flight controls, and landing gears, brings its advanced predictive maintenance algorithms and trend monitoring applications into the fold. This integration is expected to greatly enhance the alliance’s ability to provide airlines with sophisticated health management systems that cover a broad spectrum of Airbus aircraft.
Accessibility to Liebherr’s data will be facilitated via Airbus’s Skywise operational platform, which aims to connect around 11,700 aircraft by the end of 2024. This platform is designed to streamline maintenance activities, optimising both planned and unplanned tasks, and is anticipated to significantly bolster aircraft availability.
Joël Cadaux, Director of Business & Services – Customer Services at Liebherr-Aerospace & Transportation SAS, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, “We are excited to bring our analytics expertise and deep OEM and customer service experience to the Digital Alliance. By combining our complementary strengths on the Skywise platform, we aim to meet the evolving needs of the aerospace industry alongside Airbus, Delta TechOps, and GE.”
Looking towards the future, the Digital Alliance has laid out plans for accelerating and expanding its predictive maintenance capabilities specifically for the Airbus A220 and A350 platforms, with initiatives slated to commence in 2025. This development reflects ongoing trends in artificial intelligence and automation, signalling a concerted industry effort to leverage technology to enhance operational efficiencies and safety in aviation maintenance. The significance of such advancements underscores the growing role of predictive analytics in transforming business practices across the aerospace sector.
