Dell Technologies has introduced significant improvements to its NativeEdge platform, aiming to facilitate the deployment and management of AI models at the Edge, addressing the anticipated growth of enterprise data processing outside traditional data centres.
Dell Technologies has unveiled key enhancements to its Dell NativeEdge Edge operations software platform, aimed at simplifying deployment, scalability, and utilisation of artificial intelligence (AI) at the Edge. This development addresses the anticipated rise in data processing outside traditional data centres or the cloud, as projected by technology research firm Gartner. By 2025, more than half of enterprise-managed data is expected to be generated and processed at the Edge, highlighting a significant shift in data management practices.
The recent improvements within the Dell NativeEdge platform, included in Dell’s AI Factory capabilities, are designed to meet the growing demand for agile, connected, and secure systems required for deploying and managing AI models across various Edge locations. Key updates include newly integrated AI software solutions and high-availability capabilities intended to bolster resilience and reliability in AI deployment at the Edge.
Dell NativeEdge claims to be the industry’s sole Edge operations software platform that offers secure, large-scale device onboarding, remote management, and multi-cloud application orchestration. The latest enhancements enable multi-node high-availability clustering for various Dell hardware endpoints such as PowerEdge servers, OptiPlex, Precision workstations, and Dell Gateways.
These endpoints can be organised into clusters via the NativeEdge software, functioning collectively as a single system. This configuration aims to maintain critical business processes and Edge AI workloads even amidst network disruptions or device failures, thanks to virtual machine migration and automatic failover for applications, computing, and storage. Such capabilities are designed to ensure continuous operations and adaptability to varying workload demands across diverse sectors, from retail environments to utility companies. Additionally, NativeEdge endpoints can now integrate with external storage solutions like Dell PowerStore and Dell PowerVault, supporting versatile AI model training and deployment solutions at the Edge.
Dell NativeEdge Blueprints further streamline Edge AI deployments by providing a selection of pre-built AI applications and frameworks, expediting the implementation process and reducing manual setup requirements. The catalogue now includes over 55 Blueprints that facilitate rapid deployment of AI capabilities at the Edge.
Among the new additions to the Blueprint catalogue are open-source tools like Apache Spark and MLflow, which support continuous machine learning operations (MLOps) workflows optimised for Edge scenarios. Other integrations include Aveva Unified Operations Centre for city infrastructure modernisation, EPIC iO for enhancing retail operations through real-time analytics, and the Intel Geti software solution to accelerate computer vision AI models at the Edge. Updates to the NVIDIA AI Enterprise software platform enhance developers’ ability to efficiently deploy and manage AI inferencing at the Edge.
Dell Technologies also offers services to help organisations design custom NativeEdge Blueprints tailored to their specific applications, promoting efficient deployment and operation.
Speaking about the advancements, Gil Shneorson, Senior Vice President of Solutions and Platforms at Dell Technologies, stated, “AI is accelerating new Edge workloads and opportunities at an unprecedented rate. Organisations across industries are asking for simpler and more reliable ways to use AI at the Edge. Our NativeEdge expansion automates the deployment and management of Edge AI workloads, with features to support Business Continuity, so organisations can continually use the latest AI advancements at the Edge to drive revenues and positive customer outcomes.”
Keith Bradley, Vice President of Information Technology at Nature Fresh Farms, commented on the impact of Dell NativeEdge: “With over 1,000 IoT-enabled facilities, Dell NativeEdge helps us monitor real-time infrastructure elements, ensuring optimal conditions for our produce, and receive comprehensive insights into our produce packaging operations. Dell NativeEdge has enhanced our operational efficiencies and reduced costs, while supporting our continued growth and innovation in yield optimisation and environmental monitoring.”
These strides in Dell Technologies’ Edge operations software platform underscore the expanding role of Edge computing in contemporary data management and AI deployment, catering to the evolving needs of enterprises in diverse industries.
