Design visionary Yves Béhar, along with his team at fuseproject, has embarked on an ambitious collaboration with Kind Humanoid to design the exterior of a revolutionary robot, intended to serve as a versatile helper in everyday life. This partnership focuses on creating a robot that blends advanced technology with human-like characteristics, easing the interaction between humans and machines.
The design endeavour spearheaded by Béhar introduces a robot with a personality that goes beyond traditional mechanistic attributes. By emphasizing a “witty and surreal” feel, the team has worked diligently to ensure that the robot’s aesthetic design builds a sense of trust and relatability with humans. The robot, which has been designated as a ‘Kind Humanoid’, features a rounded diamond-shaped head rendered in soothing copper tones. This palette is strategically chosen to invoke comforting emotions while softening the robot’s appearance to reflect a more human-like presence.
Part of the design ingenuity includes a digital display face that aids in emotional expression, a feature aimed at bridging the gap between artificial and human interactions. In February 2024, they integrated the GPT-3 language model into Mona, allowing the robot to understand and respond to human questions naturally, without extensive programming. Initial tests exhibited Mona’s ability to execute tasks with fluid precision, including practical acts like offering a drink to Kohstall. Other interactions demonstrated Mona’s capability to converse using formal language, a step towards making the communication seamless and intuitive.
