At SAP TechEd, the software giant unveiled significant AI enhancements for its Joule copilot and introduced the SAP Knowledge Graph, aiming to revolutionise business tasks and streamline operations.
German software giant SAP has announced a series of significant artificial intelligence (AI) enhancements to its generative AI copilot, Joule. These developments were unveiled at SAP TechEd, the company’s annual technology convention. SAP aims to embed AI more deeply into its operations, introducing capabilities that could streamline and revolutionise business tasks across its vast user base.
The core innovation highlighted is the inclusion of collaborative AI agents within Joule, designed to address 80% of SAP’s frequently used business tasks. These agents are capable of working together to complete complex, multidisciplinary workflows efficiently. This collaboration aims to dismantle operational silos, thereby freeing workers to focus on tasks that require human intuition and creativity.
Alongside these AI advancements, SAP is launching the SAP Knowledge Graph, a solution intended to enhance the way developers interact with SAP data by providing business context and reducing the complexity of data modelling. By mapping business relationships and context, the Knowledge Graph promises to empower organisations with more informed decision-making capabilities when it becomes operational in the first quarter of 2025.

Further reinforcing its commitment to AI, SAP has introduced new tools for developers to propel Business AI innovation. These include streamlined development processes within SAP Build, featuring capabilities like code explanation and documentation search, designed to assist Java and JavaScript developers. Such tools promise to reduce development time significantly, fostering efficiency and innovation.
SAP is not alone in this AI venture. Microsoft is also significantly advancing its AI capabilities with the release of Copilot Studio, which facilitates the creation of custom AI agents. With its public preview available, users are offered a platform to develop agents capable of performing autonomous tasks, thereby contributing to enhanced business efficiency and allowing teams to concentrate on strategic, high-value activities.
The Microsoft offering includes a “Dynamic Agent Plan” for detailed insights into AI decision-making processes and an “Activity Overview” feature for tracking agent performance, ensuring these digital entities operate within expected parameters.
