PITT OHIO, a Pennsylvania-based logistics company, transforms its linehaul trucking and delivery services through an innovative AI-powered enterprise model, enhancing operational efficiency and reducing costs.
Pennsylvania-based logistics company PITT OHIO has made significant strides in modernising its linehaul trucking and delivery services by integrating an artificial intelligence-powered enterprise model. In an effort to enhance operational efficiency and broaden service capabilities, PITT OHIO partnered with AI software developer Maven to replace its legacy systems and achieve significant advancements across its extensive U.S. operations.
The transformation has resulted in financial savings exceeding $11,000 since the system’s launch, including reducing the average driver’s daily schedule by 20 minutes. The initiative began taking shape in 2023 and is expected to continue evolving into the first quarter of 2024. Providing a real-time operational snapshot, the AI-powered platform replaces manual processes, enhances dispatch and delivery services, and ensures seamless fleet management.
PITT OHIO’s forward-thinking approach stems from the need for reliable and efficient systems capable of handling extensive data-driven operations. The newly implemented platform effectively digitises processes, aligning with broader sustainability goals by reducing paper waste and operational costs. This strategic move ensures that dispatching, pickup, and delivery information — all crucial to maintaining the company’s LTL freight services — are integrated into a streamlined, user-friendly system.
The collaboration with Maven, also based in Pennsylvania, brought together expertise from both companies to facilitate a comprehensive rollout. Maven specialises in AI solutions tailored to trucking operations, offering functionalities such as reporting dashboards and optimised dispatch routes. With this partnership, PITT OHIO successfully onboarded over 2,600 employees to the new system, including drivers, dispatchers, and safety managers.
The new platform offers several key enhancements: it enables drivers to access relevant information via a mobile application while at delivery stops, automatically logs drivers in and out of vehicles, and permits real-time issue flagging to customer service. Additionally, communication channels between drivers and dispatchers have been significantly improved, enabling updates on customer requirements, weather, and traffic conditions.
One notable improvement is in the handling of maintenance operations. The digitised system allows maintenance requests to be sent directly to truck depots as soon as a vehicle requires attention, facilitating prompt repairs. Moreover, time spent on pickups has been reduced by an average of 15 minutes at major distribution centres, owing to the automatic population of customer data.
In response to market shifts, such as the recent closure of a competitor, PITT OHIO smoothly absorbed additional shipments into its network thanks to streamlined dispatch-driver communications, negating the need for additional back-office staff.
Looking ahead, PITT OHIO plans to further refine its system, with ongoing collaboration with Maven to uncover additional opportunities for increasing productivity and profitability. The company aims to set a benchmark for modernising outdated systems within the trucking and logistics industry, providing invaluable insights for similarly minded companies seeking technological advancement.
Through the integration of cutting-edge technology, PITT OHIO is not only enhancing its own operational capabilities but also illustrating the broader benefits of AI-driven innovations in the logistics sector.
