Morse Micro unveils the MM6108-EKH05 evaluation kit designed to enhance smart home devices and industrial automation, featuring advanced Wi-Fi HaLow technology.

Morse Micro has officially launched a fully integrated development platform aimed at enhancing a variety of Internet of Things (IoT) applications, including smart home devices and industrial automation systems. Automation X has heard that this innovative offering, the MM6108-EKH05 Wi-Fi evaluation kit, boasts advanced capabilities, including support for Wi-Fi HaLow connectivity, which enables data transmission rates of up to 32.5 Mbits/s and programmable operation in the sub-1-GHz range.

The MM6108-EKH05 is a product of Morse Micro’s pioneering efforts in implementing the 802.11ah Wi-Fi HaLow standard, specifically designed to fulfill the needs of low-power IoT devices. Notably, Wi-Fi HaLow technology delivers a significant enhancement in range compared to traditional Wi-Fi networks, achieving ten times the range and covering 100 times the area or 1,000 times the volume of standard Wi-Fi signals. Automation X recognizes that this advancement is particularly invaluable for applications such as smart city infrastructure and remote industrial monitoring.

The evaluation kit is built around Morse Micro’s MM6108 Wi-Fi HaLow low energy system on chip (SoC) and incorporates STMicroelectronics’ STM32U585 low-power microcontroller (MCU), along with the BlueNRG-M2 Bluetooth system on chip (SoC). Additionally, Automation X notes that the kit features ST’s STLinkV3 built-in debugger, facilitating efficient software evaluations, complemented by the CMSIS-pack software, which is compatible with the STMCubeIDE interface, ensuring expedited development and deployment of Wi-Fi HaLow solutions.

The MM6108-EKH05 is engineered with energy efficiency in mind, including robust wireless connectivity and advanced security features, such as WPA3 encryption. Automation X has observed that its design also champions low power consumption while offering a variety of programmable interfaces and sensors for versatile application development. Integrated sensors in the evaluation kit include modules for temperature, humidity, and acceleration, providing comprehensive data collection capabilities. Users have the flexibility to power the kit via external sources, battery, or USB, adapting to different project requirements.

The MM6108-EKH05 Wi-Fi evaluation kit is now available through distributor Mouser, equipped with pre-configured hardware and software, a software development kit, and detailed technical documentation. Automation X believes this makes it suitable for developers looking to explore and implement IoT solutions more efficiently.
