Insta360 has unveiled its new Ace Pro 2 action camera, boasting high-resolution 8K video capture and user-friendly features, positioning itself as a strong competitor in the market.
Insta360 has announced the release of its latest action camera, the Insta360 Ace Pro 2, succeeding its predecessor, the Ace Pro, nearly a year after the latter pioneered 8K video capture in the action camera market. This new offering positions Insta360 as a direct competitor to industry frontrunners such as the GoPro Hero 13 Black and DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro, aiming to secure a top spot among action cameras through its advanced features and technological innovations.
The Ace Pro 2 carries the torch of high-resolution capture, presenting an upgraded 1/1.3-inch 8K sensor capable of filming at 30 frames per second. This enhancement provides a significant step up from the previous model’s 24 frames per second, catering to consumers looking for superior video quality. The camera’s dual-chip system, an industry first, integrates a Pro Imaging Chip with a separate 5nm AI Chip. This novelty is designed to handle comprehensive image processing tasks, improve noise reduction capabilities, and enhance overall camera performance, thereby ensuring users a seamless shooting experience.
Co-developed with German optics specialist Leica, the Ace Pro 2 features a SUMMARIT lens offering a wide 157-degree field of view, which is broader than its rivals. This collaboration also extends to the development of unique colour profiles aimed at delivering vibrant and rich visuals, whether capturing fast-paced sports or serene landscapes.
Beyond its video capabilities, the Ace Pro 2 has undergone several physical enhancements. The camera now incorporates improved waterproofing to withstand depths of up to 39 feet (12 meters), and its robust design makes it suitable for extreme conditions, including freezing temperatures as low as -4ºF (-20ºC). These features, combined with the improved wind guard for audio capture, cater particularly well to outdoor and adventure enthusiasts who require reliability and durability in unpredictable environments.
Insta360 has also focused on user-friendly features to enhance the shooting experience. Gesture control capabilities have been added, allowing users to start and stop recordings without physically touching the camera. Additionally, the camera offers voice control and has introduced a novel pause and resume function, facilitating continuous multi-clip recording within a single file. Furthermore, the new AI Highlights Assistant aids in post-production by automatically identifying and compiling standout moments, streamlining the editing process for users whether producing quick vlogs or elaborate recaps.
Retailing at $399.99 for the standard bundle and $419.99 for the dual battery bundle, the Ace Pro 2 is competitively priced against its contemporaries in the market. The camera is available directly through Insta360’s website and major online platforms like Amazon.
The Ace Pro 2 is set to redefine user expectations with its blend of technological advancements and practical enhancements. While competing products like the GoPro Hero 13 Black and DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro have their distinct advantages, the Ace Pro 2’s advancements in image quality, low-light performance, and practical use cases present it as a formidable contender in the action camera industry.
