Innovate UK has unveiled a new training initiative aimed at equipping construction professionals with AI skills, addressing knowledge gaps and promoting technological advancement in the sector.
Innovate UK Launches AI Training Programme to Revolutionise Construction Industry
In an effort to modernise the construction industry and equip professionals with the necessary skills to leverage artificial intelligence (AI), a new training programme has been introduced in the UK. Launched by Innovate UK BridgeAI in collaboration with Trilateral Research, the programme is titled ‘AI in Construction: Skills for the Future’. This initiative aims to provide construction managers and leaders with comprehensive AI knowledge through networking events, training sessions, and webinars, thus promoting the integration of AI technologies within the sector.
The construction industry is increasingly turning to AI and machine learning to boost operational efficiency, enhance safety, and cut costs. With the introduction of this programme, construction managers, senior stakeholders, and other industry professionals are poised to gain crucial insights and tools to implement AI, thereby maintaining their competitiveness in an ever-evolving industry landscape. Particularly, the programme targets middle managers in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and senior leaders who are pivotal in driving digital transformation.

In response to the construction sector’s demand for AI-specific training, the programme addresses a significant gap in knowledge about practical AI applications. The AI training is tailored into three core areas, designed to accommodate varying levels of experience within organisations:

Building Connections: AI Insights for Construction Leaders and Managers: These events focus on networking and sharing insights among industry leaders and AI experts. Participants will hear directly from early adopters who have successfully integrated AI, facilitating knowledge exchange and fostering industry relationships essential for AI adoption.

AI Construction Training (ACT): Aimed at middle managers in SMEs, these online sessions provide free training funded by Innovate UK BridgeAI. Topics covered include AI project management, automation, predictive analytics, and site safety enhancements. AI in Construction: RoI for Senior Leaders: Exclusive webinars for senior decision-makers will explore AI’s return on investment, detailing how it can optimise operations, aid decision-making, and increase profitability. The sessions will also address the regulatory landscape concerning AI in construction.

As the construction industry grapples with post-pandemic recovery, sustainability targets, and workforce shortages, AI emerges as a pivotal tool.
