IBM has unveiled its enhanced AI-powered delivery platform, IBM Consulting Advantage, integrating advanced large language models to improve service delivery and client outcomes while reducing costs.
IBM has taken a significant step forward in its consulting services by expanding its AI-powered delivery platform, known as IBM Consulting Advantage. This strategic advancement leverages a combination of in-house technologies and strategic partnerships to enhance the capability of IBM’s global consulting team, which consists of approximately 160,000 consultants around the world.
The new platform integrates the third-generation Granite 3.0 large language models, positioning it as the default system within IBM Consulting Advantage. This integration is poised to provide consultants with cutting-edge artificial intelligence tools that enhance service delivery across a variety of client needs, from customer service enhancements to comprehensive IT modernisation projects. Granite 3.0 is reputed to outperform or at least match other models from leading providers in various industry and academic benchmarks, making it a robust asset for IBM in its consulting services.
David Cushman, the executive research leader at HFS Research—a strategic partner of IBM—has noted the potential impact of this advancement. Cushman highlighted that IBM Consulting Advantage is set to enhance consultants’ efficiency and effectiveness by utilising AI to improve client outcomes while simultaneously reducing costs. This fusion of human expertise with AI-driven software is noted as a forward-thinking approach in the consulting industry.
In terms of practical application, the IBM Consulting Advantage agents will be accessible through an intuitive conversational interface provided by IBM’s AI and data platform, IBM watsonx. This setup allows IBM consultants to seamlessly toggle between IBM’s Granite model and third-party AI models, comparing outputs and selecting the most suitable model for their specific tasks.
The platform is designed to support two critical service areas: cloud transformation and cloud management. IBM Consulting Advantage for cloud transformation aims to assist clients in defining and executing cloud strategies that align with their business objectives, ensuring they derive substantial value from their cloud investments. Simultaneously, the platform helps enterprises reformulate their business operations in domains such as human resources, finance, and procurement through AI integration. IBM has already initiated the use of these capabilities with select clients and intends to onboard 50 more by the end of 2024.
The timing of this integration is apt, given the increasing demand for AI-integrated services in consulting. IBM’s recent research indicates that nearly 90% of buyers now prefer consulting firms that incorporate AI technologies into their solutions, highlighting the shifting expectations within the industry.
