A new report reveals that entry-level roles will shift towards reviewing and refining outputs from generative AI, changing the skills landscape for upcoming employees.
Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) is poised to revolutionise entry-level roles across various sectors, with significant implications for the future workforce. According to a new report by the Capgemini Research Institute, a majority of industry leaders, precisely 64%, anticipate that within the next three years, the responsibilities associated with entry-level jobs will shift from the traditional focus on creation to reviewing and refining outputs generated by generative AI technologies.
An even larger percentage of managers, 71%, share this expectation, underscoring a consensus among different managerial levels regarding the transformative impact of generative AI. This technology offers the capability to produce content, data, or code significantly faster than human operatives traditionally can. Consequently, the role of junior employees is anticipated to evolve, prioritising activities such as quality control and critical analysis to ensure outputs align with the necessary business standards.
These insights were drawn from a survey conducted by the Capgemini Research Institute in May 2024. The survey engaged 1,500 executives and 1,000 entry-level employees from 500 organisations, each with annual revenues exceeding $1 billion. The purpose of the survey was to delve into how generative AI is currently being adopted across industries and how it is forecasted to shape organisational roles and operations.
The data reveals an impending shift in the workplace dynamic, as generative AI is expected to diminish manual creation tasks traditionally performed by junior staff. Instead, these roles will increasingly focus on overseeing the outputs generated by AI systems, ensuring they are up to standard and meet the strategic objectives of the business. This pivot implies a redefinition of skills required at the entry-level, with a growing emphasis on competencies related to AI oversight and analytical skills.
