Anna Money, co-founded by Daljit Singh, is reshaping business accounting by integrating design-led innovations with advanced AI, enhancing customer interactions and automating tedious tasks.

Anna Money, a fintech company co-founded by Daljit Singh in 2018, is revolutionising the mundane world of business accounting by blending design-led innovations with advanced artificial intelligence. Singh, who serves as the chief brand officer, draws on his extensive background in design to tackle the often-dreaded aspects of business finance, aiming to automate tasks and enhance customer service in a sector where client satisfaction has reportedly declined.

Singh contends that traditional banking has seen a decrease in customer satisfaction, transitioning from personal interactions in bank branches to impersonal chatbot communications. He describes the current state of customer service as the “pit of despair”, comparing it to navigating layers of technological barriers that offer little real assistance. This has been a driving force for Anna Money to create a chat service that intricately merges human interaction with artificial intelligence, aiming to be virtually indistinguishable to customers who can request personal interaction anytime.

Anna Money’s app includes an AI-powered chat function, which manages the majority of customer queries, boasting an understanding of over 80% of customer intents. Despite this reliance on AI for efficiency, Singh notes that their service includes human agents for when more nuanced or complex issues arise. A specialised chatbot feature, called Tax Terrapin, further enables users to tackle tax-related concerns.

The fintech’s approach extends beyond mere customer interaction, incorporating AI into the essence of the product. The application is crafted to automate tedious tasks, such as bookkeeping and invoicing, envisioning itself as a personal business assistant. Singh advocates that by minimising the administrative burden, business owners can focus more on growing their enterprises rather than being bogged down by paper trails and tax forms.

Anna Money’s strategy heavily revolves around design thinking. Led by Andy Moore, design director and head of product, their team consists of UX designers, engineers, and AI specialists working collaboratively to enhance the customer experience. The fintech employs a creative approach to its branding and product presentation. Anna, an acronym for Absolutely No-Nonsense Admin, strives to inject a sense of enjoyment into financial chores, manifesting in quirky features like a contactless debit card that emits a miaow sound upon use.

NB Studio crafted the company’s visual identity in collaboration with Michael Wolff, bringing on board illustrator Alice Bowsher to conceive a whimsical animal-themed branding, reinforcing the brand’s playful yet practical image.

Anna Money currently operates within the UK and has plans to expand into territories such as Australia. The company has received positive reviews for customer satisfaction on platforms like Trust Pilot, indicative of high retention rates. Singh attributes this success to the company’s commitment to a seamless user experience powered by sophisticated technology and customer-centric design.

Looking to the future, Singh envisions a scenario where Anna Money users will interface even less with the administrative sides of their businesses, as AI-driven advancements further optimise and automate processes. This vision underscores the ongoing commitment to improve the service by leveraging emerging technologies, making accounting not only less burdensome but also more engaging for users.
