The upcoming CrossTalk Event, organised by EASiNet, aims to enhance cooperation between AI initiatives and cybersecurity efforts across Europe, featuring key EU-funded projects and contributions from regulatory bodies.
The European AI Security Network (EASiNet) is hosting a significant event known as the CrossTalk Event at the Delegation of the Emilia-Romagna Region to the EU in Brussels, scheduled for October 22, 2024. This exclusive, invitation-only gathering represents a considerable advancement in the cooperative efforts between European AI and cybersecurity initiatives and authoritative bodies within the European Union.
The event will be marked by the presentation of ten major EU-funded projects, namely TRUMPET, FLUTE, ENCRYPT, HARPOCRATES, PAROMA-MED, KATY, ONCOVALUE, AI4EOSC, EOSC-TITAN, and EOSC-SIESTA. These projects encompass a diverse network involving over 50 partners spread across Europe. The consortium includes a variety of stakeholders such as hospitals, ICT firms, legal entities, and research institutions. Their collective objective is to tackle pressing issues within the spheres of Cloud Security, Privacy Enhancing Technologies (PETs), and Federated Learning specifically tailored for healthcare applications.
These initiatives are pioneering in the creation of secure and privacy-preserving frameworks, which are anticipated to hold substantial importance in the evolution of healthcare and AI technologies. The emphasis is on developing solutions that secure data while also enhancing privacy, which could significantly impact future technological and healthcare landscapes.
The CrossTalk event will also include contributions from significant European regulatory bodies. The European Union Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA) and the European Commission’s directorates, DG SANTE and DG CONNECT, are expected to share valuable insights. Their inputs will focus on existing and upcoming European policies. Furthermore, these discussions aim to facilitate the integration of AI-driven innovations, ensuring robust data protection and stringent privacy standards.
Among the critical issues to be deliberated at the event are Cloud Security for Data, Privacy Enhancing Technologies (PETs), and the adoption and certification of Federated Learning in the healthcare sector. These discussions will dive into the innovation involved in secure data storage and processing within cloud platforms, advancing protections for sensitive information, and the implications and prospects of Federated Learning in healthcare — notably in regards to regulatory compliance and privacy-focused data-sharing solutions.
Francesco Ghini, serving as the Dissemination and Communication Manager at Istituto Romagnolo per la Cura dei Tumori “Dino Amadori” IRST srl, represents the TRUMPET and FLUTE projects. Ghini emphasised the significance of such collaborative events, stating, “We created this event with the aim of taking concrete steps in the field of AI and cybersecurity by bringing together leading scientists across Europe who are working on future solutions. Connecting them with authorities is pivotal for building the foundations of Europe’s future AI landscape.” He further noted the current challenge of aligning EU-funded projects with relevant authorities in the same fields, pointing to events like this as solutions to bridge the gap and streamline efforts towards a collective aim: developing Europe’s future AI framework.
