Broadcom highlights the operational independence of VeloCloud while launching its new VeloRAIN architecture, promising to revolutionise AI networking solutions through advanced traffic identification and adaptability.
In recent developments, Broadcom has brought attention back to its VMware acquisition by highlighting innovative advancements in networking solutions through VeloCloud, now an independent division of VMware. This announcement comes amidst the backdrop of Broadcom’s high-profile acquisition of VMware, reminding stakeholders of the operational independence and market capabilities of VeloCloud.
Broadcom has unveiled the “VeloRAIN architecture” — a bold leap in facilitating robust AI networking solutions. The architecture’s pivotal feature is its ability to identify encrypted application traffic, a task previously deemed unmanageable. This advancement is particularly promising for organisations deploying AI applications at the edge, as it could enhance their ability to optimise quality of service, a critical factor given the proprietary nature and latency sensitivity of AI workloads.
VeloRAIN is designed with adaptability in mind, handling the complexities of wireless connections, which are commonplace at many edge sites. Through “channel estimation intelligence,” the technology adeptly manages 5G and satellite links, smoothly adjusting to fluctuating network conditions. This capability is crucial in scenarios where both wired and wireless connections are mixed, ensuring seamless network performance and reliability.
Broadcom’s objective with VeloRAIN is not only improved performance but also the seamless construction of expansive, multi-site networks. This is achieved through dynamic application-based slicing, allowing networks to calibrate the quality of experience according to the specific requirements of individual applications. The service quality offered to each application is regulated by policies set by administrators, who also have the discretion to tailor network conditions for individual users.
Underpinning this technological advancement, VeloCloud has launched two cutting-edge appliances. The Edge 4100 appliance delivers a substantial throughput capability of up to 30 Gbps, supporting connectivity for as many as 12,000 tunnels. This model supersedes previous iterations such as the 3400, 3800, and 3810, offering improved scale and capability. Additionally, the VeloCloud Edge 5100 appliance boasts even greater performance with a throughput reaching 100 Gbps and the ability to connect up to 20,000 tunnels.
To support the deployment and adoption of these solutions, VeloCloud has established its own channel programme targeting managed service providers. This strategic move could enhance the market presence and operational independence of VeloCloud, reinforcing its identity separate from VMware.
As VeloCloud continues to innovate under Broadcom’s ownership, these advancements could redefine networking capabilities for AI workloads, bolstering efficiency and scalability for enterprises.
