Broadcom has announced the forthcoming release of a new tool called Intelligent Assist, aimed at alleviating the pressures experienced by security operations centre (SOC) workers. The upcoming feature, integrated into vDefend, is set to become available in their next software update, expected to be rolled out in either February or March 2025.
The tool, developed in collaboration with Google Gemini, promises a swift installation process. According to Broadcom, authorised information security personnel will be prepared to implement the tool within a day. This development holds significant potential for enhancing SOC operations, which are often hampered by high levels of stress and a shortage of experienced cybersecurity professionals.
Initially, Intelligent Assist will be accessible at no cost, albeit with certain restrictions on the number of queries or chats that can be initiated within a given period. Organisations wishing to bypass these limitations will have the option to pay for unlimited use. Additionally, for those who choose to employ their own generative AI model alongside Intelligent Assist, Broadcom has stated that there would be no additional charges.
Rajiv Rajagopalan, a Broadcom executive, underscored the challenges facing today’s threat hunters and analysts. He highlighted the scarcity of skilled cybersecurity experts capable of undertaking thorough threat investigations, which often leaves teams underserved. According to Rajagopalan, many Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs) have expressed their struggles in managing the overwhelming influx of security events and alerts, seeking assistance wherever possible.
Rajagopalan indicated that Intelligent Assist is designed to mitigate these challenges by significantly reducing the volume of threats and alerts SOC teams must address. The tool’s functionality includes providing users with immediate access to comprehensive information on various types of malware and ransomware, eliminating the need for them to be versed in every potential threat detail. This not only streamlines the analysis process but also equips security teams with the tools needed to effectively mitigate threats.
