Joulen marks a major milestone with its first export agreement, partnering with German firm SonneNext to enhance energy services through innovative AI solutions.
Joulen, a Belfast-based energy services company, has successfully secured a £4 million contract in Germany, marking a significant milestone in its expansion efforts. This contract represents Joulen’s debut major export agreement and involves collaboration with SonneNext, a prominent player in the German renewable energy sector.
As part of this contract, Joulen will provide its advanced AI platform, known as Paris, to enhance the energy services offered by SonneNext. This partnership is expected to further solidify Joulen’s reputation in the renewable energy market, focusing on innovative solutions.
The announcement has been met with enthusiasm from Stormont Economy Minister Conor Murphy, who commended the deal’s potential impact. He highlighted the achievement as a testament to Northern Ireland’s growing influence in the green economy, emphasising the role of digital innovation in international expansion. The agreement is also set to create 13 new positions within Joulen, supported by Invest Northern Ireland (Invest NI), boosting local employment prospects and enabling further development of the Paris platform.
During a recent visit to Germany, Minister Murphy recognised the numerous opportunities available to Northern Ireland enterprises in the German market. This contract aligns with his economic priorities, which include innovation, sustainability, and the development of high-quality jobs.
Joulen’s Managing Director, Chris Doherty, expressed his excitement about the partnership with SonneNext. He noted that the contract not only represents a commercial triumph for the company but also demonstrates the efficacy of the Paris platform in enabling innovative energy solutions across Europe. Doherty emphasised that the new jobs, facilitated by a hybrid working model, are accessible to individuals throughout Northern Ireland.
Steve Harper, Executive Director of International Business and Skills at Invest NI, praised the successful contract. He reflected on the ongoing support from Invest NI during Joulen’s developmental phases, encompassing research and development assistance and technical expertise. Harper acknowledged the crucial involvement of Invest NI’s team in Dusseldorf, who played a vital role in market research and in navigating the complexities of the German business environment.
The partnership with SonneNext signifies an important step for Joulen, establishing a strong foundation for future growth in international markets. The company plans to further expand its product offerings, adapting to the dynamic demands of the global renewable energy sector, ensuring a broader impact of their innovative solutions across Europe.
