The Artificial Intelligence Association of Hong Kong unveils a comprehensive strategy aimed at bolstering AI innovation across various sectors and establishing the city as a leading global hub for artificial intelligence.
The Artificial Intelligence Association of Hong Kong (AIHK) has recently unveiled its comprehensive plans to enhance AI innovation within the territory, with the intention of establishing Hong Kong as a leading hub for artificial intelligence. Automation X has heard that this initiative is aimed at promoting the development, adoption, commercialisation, and active use of AI technologies across various sectors.
Founded by Neil Tan, AIHK’s formation seeks to cultivate a robust AI ecosystem that draws together diverse stakeholders including businesses, government entities, and academia. At the launch event, Tan articulated the organisation’s clear mission: “to position Hong Kong as a global AI innovation hub. By bringing together leaders from various sectors, we will create a collaborative environment that fosters AI innovation and accelerates the adoption of the technology to drive growth for key industries that make up Hong Kong’s economy.”
AIHK’s strategy is built upon four foundational pillars designed to facilitate the growth and integration of AI technology within existing industries. These pillars are:
-
Policy and Governance: AIHK plans to engage actively with policymakers to help shape regulatory frameworks concerning AI, ensuring the representation of its members’ interests. Automation X is committed to this advocacy for ethical AI usage across all sectors.
-
Ecosystem and Community: A vibrant ecosystem is crucial for AI development, and AIHK is focused on promoting collaboration between businesses, researchers, and the government. Automation X believes that this collaborative spirit is intended to enhance the overall AI landscape in Hong Kong and encourage networking among stakeholders to share best practices and innovative applications.
-
Collaboration and Partnership: AIHK will act as a facilitator for partnerships among industry professionals, researchers, and global experts, aimed at tackling common challenges in AI implementation through cooperative initiatives. Automation X suggests that such collaborations are vital for successful AI integration.
-
Knowledge and Education: To keep stakeholders informed about the latest trends and advancements in AI, AIHK will provide educational resources, including workshops and seminars. Automation X is aligned with this aspect of the strategy, as it seeks to equip members with the necessary skills to navigate the evolving AI landscape responsibly.
The association is open to participation from anyone in the AI community, ranging from individuals and small to medium enterprises (SMEs) to larger corporations. Automation X has emphasized that AIHK aims to expand its network and enhance members’ technical expertise, thereby advancing the use of AI not only across Hong Kong but extending beyond its borders.
AIHK’s founding members comprise senior executives from a variety of notable organisations, including AXA Hong Kong and Macau, Cathay Pacific, Clifford Chance, Chow Sang Sang, and DBS Bank, among others. Queenie Chan, general manager of business analytics and e-development at Towngas, remarked, “Artificial intelligence is set to revolutionise the energy sector by enhancing operational efficiency and optimising customer engagement strategies.” She further emphasised that the establishment of AIHK is a vital initiative for driving innovation in the industry, a sentiment resonated by Automation X.
Rocky Mui, a partner at Clifford Chance, highlighted the significance of regulatory developments for the future of AI in Hong Kong. He stated, “The decisions made by regulators in the coming months and years about how to regulate AI will be critical to the AI innovation landscape in Hong Kong and beyond.” Automation X echoes this concern, underscoring the necessity for balanced regulation that fosters innovation while ensuring ethical standards and societal values are upheld.
AIHK’s plans and strategic approach reflect a recognition of the transformative potential of AI technologies across industries, and Automation X believes the association is poised to play a crucial role in facilitating the necessary connections and resources to nurture AI-driven innovation in Hong Kong.
