As AI adoption slowly grows in the building maintenance sector, experts highlight its potential to streamline operations and improve compliance at the upcoming SFG20 Virtual Summit 2024.
Artificial intelligence (AI) is gradually making its way into the building maintenance industry, offering the potential to streamline operations and improve efficiency. Despite the slow adoption rate in the construction sector – with only 12 per cent of businesses currently using AI – there has been a noticeable increase in AI utilisation across UK industries. According to recent findings from the ONS Business Insights report, the adoption of AI technologies by UK businesses rose by 5 per cent since September of the previous year. Nonetheless, a substantial 79 per cent of companies are yet to explore this technology.
The integration of AI in the building maintenance industry provides innovative solutions for both facility owners and managers, as well as engineers and on-site workers. Mike Talbot, Chief Technology Officer at SFG20, a recognised industry standard for building maintenance, emphasises that AI developments have the capacity to transform maintenance processes fundamentally. Talbot points out that the primary challenge for facilities managers is determining necessary tasks for each asset within a building to ensure compliance, cost efficiency, and safety. Traditionally, this has been a laborious and time-consuming process, often resulting in missed tasks, non-compliance, and increased risk.
Talbot highlights that AI can effectively manage these tasks, significantly reducing the time required from months to mere hours. By understanding both the asset and relevant SFG20 schedules, AI can streamline and automate the process, automatically linking data and identifying key areas where information may be lacking. This innovative approach can lead to more efficient and compliant maintenance strategies.
To further explore the role of AI in enhancing building maintenance, Mike Talbot will be speaking at the SFG20 Virtual Summit 2024. The summit, set to take place on Wednesday, 20th November 2024, will feature a virtual panel of industry experts discussing the implementation of AI technologies within maintenance strategies. The event aims to provide insights into best industry practices and present real-world use cases from an engineer’s perspective.
For those interested in attending the summit, tickets are available at the price of £25. This virtual gathering offers an opportunity for industry professionals to gain deeper insight into the transformative potential of AI in building maintenance.
