Among these “Sneaks”, the crowd was particularly captivated by Project Turntable, an innovative concept that tantalisingly bridges the gap between 2D and 3D visual art forms.
Project Turntable was showcased in front of an audience keen on exploring the future possibilities of digital design. The tool, spearheaded by Adobe research scientist Zhiqin Chen, grants users the extraordinary ability to rotate 2D vector art as if it were three-dimensional. During the demonstration, a striking example involved an illustrated warrior who, when rotated, turned to face a dragon. Another compelling example featured a 2D horse initially depicted with only two visible legs. As the image underwent rotation using Project Turntable, it adeptly transitioned to reveal a complete set of four legs. This is achieved through sophisticated AI technology engineered to intuit and fill missing parts of the visual as it transitions through space.
Brian Domingo, representing Adobe, mentioned that while the project has garnered significant interest, there remains uncertainty about whether Project Turntable will progress to a commercial release.
