Ai Ogura showcased his prowess to secure pole position at the Thai GP, setting the stage for a thrilling battle in the Moto2 championship.
Ai Ogura demonstrated his prowess by claiming pole position at the Thai GP this weekend, marking a pivotal moment in his pursuit of the Moto2 world championship title. The Japanese rider showcased his dominance during a gripping qualifying session held on Saturday in Buriram.
Initially, Arón Canet from Fantic Racing/Kalex emerged as the session leader. He was closely followed by Diogo Moreira representing the Italtrans Racing Team/Kalex. Nevertheless, both riders were ultimately surpassed by Ogura, competing for MT Helmets-MSi/Boscoscuro, who delivered an exceptional performance.
Midway through the session, as riders temporarily returned to their garages, there was anticipation among the teams and spectators for improved lap times in the concluding minutes. However, this expectation did not materialise, with the top positions remaining static. Ogura’s previously set lap record stood firm, enabling him to secure pole position by a slim margin of 0.051 seconds over Canet.
Diogo Moreira’s third-place start is notable, marking one of his most impressive qualifying achievements since entering the Moto2 category. This performance sets a solid foundation for his race aspirations.
Tony Arbolino, riding for Elf Marc VDS/Kalex, encountered physical challenges due to a crash in the free practice session. Despite these setbacks, Arbolino managed to qualify fourth. However, a penalty incurred will see him demoted by three places on the starting grid.
Consequently, the second row at the Thai GP will see Marcos Ramírez from the OnlyFans Racing Team/Kalex occupying fourth place. He will be joined by Filip Salac of Elf Marc VDS/Kalex and Albert Arenas from Gresini Moto2/Kalex, all vying for strong performances in the race.
The stage is set for an exhilarating Moto2 race, with competitors poised to challenge each other fiercely, while Ai Ogura, from his leading position, aims to capitalise on his pole advantage in the championship race.
