New editorial platform HUWD aims to infuse spiritual perspectives into technology discussions, encouraging a reassessment of innovation through ancient traditions and indigenous knowledge.
A new editorial platform titled “Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming” (HUWD) has recently emerged with an intriguing approach towards the rapidly evolving landscape of technology and data. With cities, homes, and indeed the world increasingly hustling to the tune of technological advancements, HUWD intends to offer something more contemplative. The platform aims to infuse spiritual perspectives into conversations about the future of artificial intelligence, the exploration of space, and the ways humans connect with one another. By doing so, HUWD presents an opportunity to reassess and critique the development and implementation of technology through the lens of ancient traditions and indigenous knowledge.
The founder of HUWD, Anna Gerber, highlights a common societal tendency to segregate spiritual, mystical, and bodily experiences from the pursuit of innovation and creativity. “I think a lot of us have been socially conditioned to keep our spiritual, mystical and embodied journeys separate to our quest for innovation and creativity,” Gerber remarks. Her own journey reflects this discovery mode as she shares insights from her tenure at Google’s now-dissolved R&D lab, Empath Lab. It was there that Anna began to delve into the lesser-known narratives of technological development which intertwine with the mystical and the unseen.
Gerber points out historical figures like Marie Curie, who reportedly engaged in seances, and Alan Turing, who believed in the possibility of telepathy, as being instrumental in envisioning a new understanding of technology’s relationship with the mystical. This exploration was initially captured in a feature article she penned for Creative Review, discussing the merging of technology and spirituality. That article laid the groundwork for what would become HUWD, providing a fresh perspective for its audience.
HUWD’s framework encourages its audience to explore mystical teachings and apply them to the contemporary discourse on technology, crafting a narrative that defies conventional paths. This novel platform does not merely present an alternative; it seeks to pioneer an inclusive dialogue that respects the intrinsic wisdom found across diverse cultures and traditions. By doing so, it adds a rich texture to the ongoing conversation about how technology shapes human experiences in an increasingly interconnected world.
