Young innovator revolutionises music production with Electrance Studio

In San Diego, 16-year-old Milan Gupta is making waves in the tech and music industries as the founder of Electrance Studio, a pioneering app that facilitates electronic music creation. Gupta’s entrepreneurial journey began at just 14 years old when he became frustrated with the barriers to music production. Recognising a gap in the market for accessible, user-friendly music software, he aimed to create an app that would meet the needs of aspiring artists and seasoned producers alike.

Electrance Studio is designed to provide musicians with professional-grade tools without the prohibitive costs traditionally associated with music production. The app is currently free to use, catering to a diverse clientele that includes independent artists, small production teams, and hobbyists. Gupta expressed his ambition to cultivate a loyal user community and expand Electrance into wider areas of music and entertainment.

Gupta’s background in music stems from a family environment rich in musical influences: he plays both the piano and drums, while his father is a guitarist. His family’s passion for music helped fuel his own interest. However, his initial foray into music production revealed challenges that many beginners face, such as the high cost of software, the complexity of learning music production tools, and insufficient guidance resources. To overcome these challenges, Gupta sought to design Electrance using technology that would simplify the process for users of all skill levels.

Artificial Intelligence plays a crucial role in the features Electrance offers, with unique tools designed to enhance user experience. For instance, the app employs machine learning algorithms to analyse a user’s emotions and provide tailored music recommendations. Additionally, it includes innovative functionalities such as a virtual mouse and keyboard and hand gesture controls for volume adjustments, using AI-driven technology to facilitate intuitive navigation within the app.

Given that Electrance is an ambitious project, Gupta has invested considerable time in researching existing music tools and frameworks before diving into its development. He has tackled multiple technical challenges, particularly regarding device compatibility and the implementation of the music recommender’s AI functionalities, which involved fine-tuning reliability in various lighting conditions. Gupta noted that iterating based on user feedback has been essential in creating a seamless user experience.

Juggling his academic responsibilities as a junior at Francis Parker High School with the demands of running a start-up presents its own set of challenges for Gupta. He employs a method known as “time blocking,” allocating specific time slots to different tasks to maintain focus and productivity across both school and business commitments.

As he reflects on the growth of Electrance, Gupta cites the satisfaction of witnessing his vision materialise as one of the most rewarding aspects of the venture. He noted that user feedback has been particularly gratifying, reinforcing his motivation to continually develop the platform.

Looking ahead, Gupta aims to increase Electrance’s user base and enhance its offering through expanded AI capabilities over the next three years. He envisions the app becoming an essential tool for a new generation of electronic music creators, which could potentially reshape how musicians interact with and produce music.

Electrance Studio, which officially launched in 2023, is unique in that it operates under the guidance of its young founder. The company currently has no employees apart from Gupta, who continues to manage development and user engagement from its San Diego headquarters. His vision for the future of Electrance is to foster a vibrant community of artists and continuously innovate the platform to better serve its users.
